Reiki, Pronounced "RAY-key," is a form of touch therapy that the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health classifies as "biofield therapy" or "energy medicine." Because of its simplicity and fast, dramatic results, documented in increasing numbers of research studies, Reiki is one of the fastest growing complementary modalities in the world. Reiki is now used not only by individuals but also in hundreds of hospitals, nursing homes, hospices and spas throughout the United States. * It is also offered locally at Norwegian American Hospital in Rockford, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Swedish Covenant Hospital, University of Chicago Hospital and North Shore Hospitals and Wellness Place.
One hour of Reiki is the physiological equivalent of three to four hours sleep.
Therefore Reiki is clinically demonstrated to be one of the most advanced natural stress reduction and health improvement therapies available.
Reiki can be used on its own or as a complimentary adjunct to other conventional or alternative systems. Reiki is used extensively within the Medical and Paramedical professions worldwide. Patients can continue to receive orthodox medical attention and use Reiki to enhance their bodys vitality and healing rate. Reiki also reduces the side effects of chemotherapy and other drugs.
Reiki promotes personal growth by increasing intuitive, cognitive and creative processes and has a similar physiological and psychological effect on the body to meditation.

who can reiki help?
Everyone! We have become so used to demanding jobs, environment pollution, less than perfect nutrition, and all the other taxing factors of our modern, frantic lives, we often have no idea how stressed we really are. Reiki helps rid the body of accumulated stress, thereby helping to prevent illness and maintain good health. Clinical studies show that Reiki boosts the immune system, clears toxins, relieves pain, and improves sleep.
- For healthy individuals, it is a simple, effective way to relax, relieve stress, and restore energy.
- For those with acute or chronic health problems, Reiki is a valuable complementary therapy.
what is a typical reiki session like?
During a 60-minute Reiki treatment, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table. Unlike massage, there is no manipulation of muscles or tissue. The Reiki practitioner gently places their hands on areas along the endocrine system, major organs, and the chakras, on the front and back of the body. Special emphasis is determined by the focus of the treatment. The client often feels warmth from the practitioner’s hands or a tingling during the session or nothing but sheer relaxation. After the treatment, clients generally feel a sense of deep relaxation, peace, calmness and greater clarity of mind.
reiki and cancer
Reiki is not a cure all by any means, but there is evidence that Reiki has been effective as a form of cancer aftercare. It has helped to relieve pain, and there are studies that reveal Reiki’s positive effects on HIV and cancer remission. reiki for moms
Reiki provides physical, mental and emotional support for the mother. It is a simple, effective way to relax, relieve stress, restore energy, and maintain overall wellness. Because it relaxes the body at such deep levels, one hour of Reiki is equivalent to three or four hours of very deep sleep, “jump starting” the body’s own natural healing abilities.
